Project brief
Project brief
Dremel was expanding their DigiLab product family, adding a hobby laser engraver to their line of 3D printers. The task was to produce something for a wide-ranging demographic, appropriate for K-12 through to semi-professionals. The software had to be a friendly introduction for a new user, but robust enough to handle all a veteran “Maker” could throw at it.

The focus was on creating a “perceived simplicity.” The machine and software are host to a wide range of features, but by allowing the user access to only certain levels of information at any given time, it reduces the risk of overwhelming the user.
